This is in response to your Freedom of Information Act request dated
May 1, 1999, regarding the National Firearms Registration and Transfer
Record (NFRTR) report that was submitted to the Department of Treasury
Inspector General.

The report you refer to was indeed submitted to the Inspector General of
Treasury, with the understanding that the report was _not_ accurate,
because some of the report functions associated with the database are not
working properly.

Enclosed is a copy of the 1998 NFRTR report.  This report is _not_
accurate.  Our letter dated April 20, 1999, advised you of the
inaccuracies we are still experiencing, and are working on resolving the
problems in the near future.  Consequently, the enclosed NFRTR report as
a whole does not reflect reliable data.
